Today was insane. I did a lot of running around. Like a chicken with it's head cut off, as the old saying goes.

I went to the bank, talked to the people in the apartment office about getting written formal permission to have an electrician come in and fix the bedroom circuit, took the cat to the vet, called the electrician to make an appointment, called that guy who runs the travel agency back, made a lunch appointment with him, tore apart the digital picture frame (and confirmed that it's fucked) placed the classified on Craigslist that I've been meaning to (for help fixing the deck in my car), ran out and bought a few odds and ends, took those extra plastic bags to be recycled, did some cleaning and organizing around the house, bought the oil and filter for use if I get a chance to take the car to the mechanic tomorrow, and probably other things that I'm forgetting about.

The G4 is still at the Apple Store where I dropped her off Monday evening. Still no word, but I don't expect to hear anything for almost a week, being as that's their "outside" estimate.

Spent a lot taking the cat to the vet and getting him all set up. Owning a pet is not cheap. At least now I know he's neutered, in good general health (though he has worms, they can be and are being treated) and is 6-8 months old. I'm still trying to find a good name for him, but I'm liking [info]falconeio's suggestion of "Ford" (which is both a Hitchhiker's guide reference, and a sly reference to my car, which I also adore entirely too much). So that stands a good chance of becoming his name unless someone comes up with something better.

Have more phone calls to make tomorrow, plus several other errands to run, time permitting, before my lunch with Gaylen (the guy with the travel business). I probably won't get around to all of them, but I'm going to have to make it a point to at least get the car to the mechanic no later than one of my days off next week.

The car is running well in all other respects, but she's shifting sluggishly again. I figure a transmission fluid flush and fill with that same gunk they used last time ought to do the trick (at least I hope). But that plus the plugs and wires and the oil change are still going to set me back financially. Just when I thought things were under control.

I have some pictures I want to post, but those can wait until tomorrow, since I need to be getting to bed.

Pets are pretty pricey, especially when you start getting more exotic. My fiancee has a macaw and two cockatiels and you're always guaranteed at least $200 per visit for each of them, no matter what the issue is.

Yeah, I just wasn't expecting to get a cat so soon. I wanted to wait until I was better off financially, but I didn't have much say in the matter.

Definitely better than "cow", but not nerdy.

I would like to point out that I knew exactly what that was!
Not that that proves anything.. since I was born in the midwest, and grew up near farms. And took Ag classes in Florida.

But still, it was fun to see you have to ask when I knew it already :P

Whatever, don't mind me, I'm in a weird mood.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that it's the Ag classes more than the living here.

They taught us that shit when I lived in Vermont, along with lots of stuff no one outside the industry cares about in regards to maple syrup. That I actually remember, but most of the stuff relating to dairy farming I've long since ejected from my brain.

I think it's both. I learned it here as a kid, I know, and then Ag class was just a good refresher. I think with just one source, not both, I wouldn't still remember it.

It would seem so weird to learn about syrup :P

I only learned that shit in grade school because there's only four basic industries in Vermont: dairy, maple sugar, tourism, and the military. The sugaring stuff I remember.

I can still tell grade A light amber from grade A dark amber at a glance to this day. How's that for a useless skill?

Yeah, that does seem fairly worthless. But who knows, maybe it actually WILL come in handy some day.

Being as most "maple syrup" is corn syrup with caramel color, I have my doubts.

I don't think I'll be moving back to Vermont anytime soon. :P
