Just sticking this in here to enlighten you all to the fact that I'm not dead, and that I do still update this from sources other than my Twitter account (via LoudTwitter's auto-publishing).

I've been pretty busy at work. A six-day week this past week, and yesterday a 13hr hour day. Matt (AKA crackhead) is still on vacation, and things are still a bit confused until he gets back. Well, at least until Bill fires him for fucking up again.

I hope to sit down and post a real update sometime soon. Tomorrow, hopefully. The inspiration is starting to strike again. I'd do it now, but as the timestamp on this indicates, I should be in bed already.

I haven't found a decent LJ update app for the Pre yet. Hopefully I can go back to the posts from work once I do. I could do it from the browser, but there's an irritatingly large amount of scrolling doing it that way. I think once I get a chance to install the Classic emulation app that I'll just use the old Palm LJ updater app from within that.

See you mañana, folks.

Much Ado About (Almost) Nothing Aug. 29th, 2009 @ 03:50 am
I meant to post this a while ago with some more specific information, but it kind of fell by the wayside as things have been hectic with me trying to cram in as much to be done as possible. Hell, on my days off this week, I drove 60 miles... which is the same as if I'd worked (28 mile round trip commute each day for me).

Well, to start off, Sherman got fired. I know Bill thought he was lazy and questionably trustworthy, so he'd be trying to get rid of him for a while. He essentially out and said that Sherman would be gone by Friday. So on Tuesday, I offered to buy him dinner from box lady. A sort of clandestine "last supper", if you will. My way of giving him a decent memory of working there. He turned me down, even though I offered to pay, since he happened to have brought food that day. Since I was in the mood for eating out already anyway, I went there. As always, Christine (the box lady's name) gave me free soup, and undercharged me. She is made of awesome, and makes her food out of delicious. I ordered her shrimp Egg Foo Yung, since I've never actually had it before, and I enjoy trying things on her menu I haven't had before. I was not disappointed in the slightest. It was amazing. Afterward, I wanted so badly to take a nap. I was full, happy, and lethargic. Classic symptoms of food coma.

When I came in on Friday, I discovered Matt and Bill were both there, since Bill was (unsurprisingly) going to fire Sherman, and he needed someone to cover. So, when Sherman got in, I half expected fireworks. They didn't come. He did leave his ABC shirt and back belt. I asked Bill if I could snag the shirt, since Sherman and I are approximately the same shirt size. He said to go ahead and take it, so I did. No complaints at getting an extra ABC shirt for free. The company charges us $10 each for those fucking things.

Bill had to close, since Matt opened. So Bill ordered from box lady. I opted in for a couple of eggrolls and some soup (since I wasn't terribly hungry, but I adore her eggrolls). I ran over to pick up the order, and she again didn't charge us for the soup. Bill raved about the Egg Foo Yung (which he'd ordered at my recommendation) as well.

That's the most interesting stuff that I've had go on recently. Other than that, it's been a lot of running around picking up odds and ends (like brake light bulbs, since I unexpectedly had the high-mount one go out on me). Mostly stuff for the new car. I wasn't able to get the windows tinted on my day off like I thought I was, because (get this) the one and only tint guy at the place where I was planning to take it called in sick. Oh well, I have another week to get that done.

It looks like I won't be able to salvage the rear-view mirror from the old car, nor the old rear window with the defroster and it's associated switch. I was hoping that I could, but I don't think either of those will be impossible to obtain in the near future, so I'm going to back-burner it for a bit. I am glad that I was able to retrieve the wiring harness for the radio, though. I forgot to grab that when I was scavenging parts because I mistakenly thought I'dd have to cut the wires for some reason. Turns out that it's a bitch to find one of those, not to mention finding a breakout pigtail to wire into it that's compatible with my deck. It's a fuckload easier to just pull it. So hopefully that install is going to be a fairly easy task, something I can get to within the next couple of days. The deck switching to tape mode (and going silent in the process) is driving me fucking insane.

Most recent big thing was that I finally made good on some of the things I threatened to buy for work. I told Bill that one of these days, I'd just get us a coffeemaker and I did. Due in part to Sherman's replacement, Craig, being a coffee drinker as well as Bill and myself. Also bought a decent broom, since Bill seems to like the shitty one we have, in spite of it driving me nuts. Also, a pair of gloves for us to use when cleaning (since handling bleach without them is just so much fun). Also made good on my threat/promise to buy Matt (crackhead) a pre-paid cell phone since he keeps getting his MetroPCS phone disconnected for weeks at a time. We need to call him sometimes, and he doesn't have a phone. And I managed to find a Net10 handset for a mere $7.48.

Also snagged this interesting email gadget called a Peek. Target had them on clearance for $7, so I picked one up to play with it's month of service. I've been enjoying it quite a bit so far (as may be evident from the emailed tweets that I've posted from it ). It's limited, yes... but fun to use, and at the price, I couldn't help myself, I just had to play with the thing.

Dealt with (I hope) my traffic violation the other night. Mailed a check to the county court office, along with a letter asking them to contact me if the amount was wrong, since the paperwork was so vague. I just have to sign up for one of the online traffic school courses and complete that. Hopefully it'll only take a day or two, and the whole sordid mess will finally be behind me.

Trying to get caught up on some the electronic things that have fallen by the wayside. I posted a bunch of pictures (the post prior to this one) and I have another round or two that should be coming at some point in the near future. One set is of the new car, for all of you that might be curious about that.

I was at the Little Ceasar's off of Fletcher the other evening grabbing a large cheese, and someone apparently abandoned a large with anchovies. They offered to sell it to anyone who was interested for the employee price of $4. I took them up on it, as I happened to have enough cash at the time. It was actually pretty good, to my surprise. Most places don't do anchovies right, but they managed it decently.

I think those are all the important bits. If you made it this far, you get a cookie. I like LoudTwitter's posts to fill in on the occasional day when I don't post here, but I don't just want to end up with my LJ full of nothing but encapsulated tweets, either. So I'll try to be better at keeping up from here on out.

Fri Ri & Tlip Jul. 14th, 2009 @ 05:14 am
Finished the by now epic "make fried rice" project. It turned out well, if a shade shy of really authentic to take-out taste. I did greatly enjoy it, however. Ended up deciding to buy a wok to make it properly. I now have a wok. I added my own little flourishes, and it turned out pretty damned good. I ended up eating my entire batch in three massive plates... which is not surprising considering that it was my first meal of the day and it was almost 11PM by that time. But it was also damned good. I think it's something I'll be doing again in the future, as well as utilizing the wok for stir-frying.

Speaking of the wok, carbon steel (and cast iron, as well) is a pain in the ass to "season". Whatever coating came on the wok when I bought it (claimed to be "nontoxic, flavorless and odorless") burnt itself to the wok as I was trying to season it. Serious scrubbing (that is, everything shy of steel wool) was unable to remove the ugly brown stain. Other than looking ugly, it doesn't seem to affect it. So I'm just going to ignore it, like that ugly stuff permanently welded to the bottom of my stock pot.

Decided to take that trip back up to Vermont before gas prices get obscene again (and they're well on the rebound from that lovely $1.50 per gallon that they bottomed out at a few months back). I'm borrowing a thousand bucks from my folks in order to do so, since I have no idea if I'll ever be able to scrape up that much cash in one lump sum, and I don't want to do this all on my already taxed plastic. I'm not sure about all the details, but as I iron them out, I'll keep this updated. At the moment, it's looking like I'm going to take a week of vacation time, and see if Bill will bookend it with a couple of unpaid days off to allow me to keep a week of paid time for when Jacob comes to visit.

Got a statement from the Social Security Administration. Greatly amusing to read about how by 2041 SS will only be able to pay out an estimated 78% percent of what's owed. I really wish we'd just abolish this dinosaur already. Thinking it'll last longer than 15 years from now is foolish. Also amusing was my year-by-year "taxable SS wages". I made a career-high $24,000 in 2006, and I made $17,000 in 2008. Oh joy. A $7,000 per year drop. No wonder I'm feeling the pinch financially. That's something on the order of 20% less. Whatever happened to things getting better as you go along? Oh well.

Bought home some of the salvageable damages from work. I snagged a bottle of Creme De Casis with a cracked cap (anyone have any ideas what I can make with that other than a grasshopper?), about 1/3rd of a 1.75L bottle of Sailor Jerry spiced rum, 48 St. Brendon's Irish cream minis (which thus far have all proved to be coagulated), and a 1.75L bottle of Tenure polish vodka with a chunk of the bottle's shoulder chipped off. Crackhead actually had a good idea for once. Run it through a coffee filter to make 100% sure that all the tiny flecks of broken glass are gone, and it should be safe. That's missing about 250 to 300 mils that spilled out, but most of a 1.75 isn't bad. So, I picked up some coffee filters for a buck and change along with the wok tonight. Incidentally, those cheap bar-style pourers that we sell are quite nice. I got one for the Patron Pyrat rum, since its bottle is a pain in the ass to pour from, and I'm using it all the time now (the pour spout).

I had fun technically breaking the law, getting that cracked bottle of tenure home. Since I didn't want it anyplace where I couldn't control it and prevent it from tipping over during turns, it sat in my lap. With a hole in the side, covered with tape. I'm glad I'm paranoid since I passed two state police cars parked on the shoulder. I know that since the neckband seal was still intact, the hole in the side covered with tape, and I was stone cold sober, I might not have been charged with anything if I'd been pulled over... but why take the chance? Also, vodka dissolves the adhesive on packing tape. I knew intellectually that it's an organic solvent, but it surprises me the unexpected other uses it has, sometimes.

Have a bunch of housework to get around to tonight and/or tomorrow. Might clean the bathroom before I vacuum (since I can do that at night). But hopefully I should be able to check off most of what's on my list by Wednesday.

Moved the "to do" pile of crap from the living room into the bedroom. Okay, so I didn't deal with it, but at least I consolidated the "I haven't dealt with this yet" mess to a single, less-used area.

Still have pictures and long-promised updates to post here, but I'll probably try to make time for that tomorrow night after I get home.

Back On The Level Jul. 12th, 2009 @ 04:51 am
I feel really shitty lately. I'm not sure why, it continues even on the days when I go out of my way to ensure that I get a full night's sleep. It doesn't seem to make a great deal of difference. I still feel shitty in the morning, just less so.

Not sure what I can do about it. I eat healthier than I was for a while, but it doesn't seem to help. I'm tempted to load up and go on another giant shopping trip (like I used to, bi-monthly, before I got out of the habit), but I really don't want to run up any more expenses. I'm not sure it'd even make any difference if I did that, either.

I think I'm actually becoming a sociopath. I find myself actively avoiding people, and staying at home at times when I think others will be around. It wouldn't bother me so much if I wasn't forced to deal with society's dregs on a daily basis to pay the bills, but after a full day of arguing with people about ID and having someone insist than "Henny VSOP is stronger than the regular" and other such painfully idiotic positions that I run into on a daily basis, I want to crawl into a hole and hide from the world. I used to make an effort to be sociable and try to spend time with other people, friends of friends and such. Hell, even fairly recently (a year ago or so) I was wanting to get out and meet people, make some local friends. I no longer have any desire to do that. I am perfectly content with my social circle being 1300+ miles away. They can come here, I can go there... but I'm not going to meet new ones. I have enough friends.

I got a rejection notice from Target the other day. Official "fuck off" notice. I'm debating if it's worth calling Eddie (my old ETL from 1476) and having him vouch for me. I don't know if that'll help. And even if it does, am I sure I want to go back to the company that I ran away from practically full-tilt? I know I need money, but I keep wondering if there's a better way.

I am sick to death of people telling me "be thankful you have a job", or if it's someone trying to console me (parents, friends) "things will get better". Of course I was able to geta job. Almost anyone can get a job, even in this economy if they lower their standards enough. As far as things getting better... I sure as fuck don't see it coming. I'm honestly starting to thank that it's not even possible for things to get better... only worse. As a general rule, mind you. Not even just specifically applicable to me.

I have several posts in the queue, but I haven't felt like working on any of them lately. And I also have several calls to make, as well as a bunch of photos to go through. Eventually, there will be the "visit" posts, but I don't know when I'm going to feel enough in the mood to sit down and pound out the last bits of those. I keep meaning to on days off, but those somehow always seem be consumed by laundry, sleep, and massive inertia.

I've made a large amount of progress with my (seemingly) eternal project: the MP3 dump. I'm down to just a week's worth of work. Well, straight through, that is. Mostly what's left is a Temptations discog, a few gigs of random music, and the complete Bach collection. After that's done, I'll have all of my music sorted, filed, and imported into my iTunes library. I'm already up past 55,000 songs, and 320GB.

Placeholder Posts May Be No More Jul. 4th, 2009 @ 05:57 am
Well, I'm still not dead. Anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

LoudTwitter (the automatic publisher I was using to post tweets here) had had some problems, and may not be coming back at all. So, I'm going to try to do better to keep this updated since there will be no placeholder content from Twitter for an indeterminate amount of time.

There really hasn't been too much of note. I have to close this entire week, except Monday (truck day). Oh boy. I just love dealing with the party kids. They're so much fucking fun.

Fucked around with the Xserve the other day. Installed some apps, tried to change some configuration stuff. I have forgotten how to share a folder that isn't someone's home directory. I'm not sure if there's even a way to do it from the GUI, I might have to go in and fuck around with the smb.conf file. Maybe I'll get lucky and find a way around that.

I have some photos I want to share, as well as the trip post(s) to finish and upload. The problem is that whenever the drive to write up a post comes, it's usually at a stupidly late hour when I should be in bed. I think my creativity is enhanced by lack of sleep. Something to do with alpha brainwaves, perhaps?

At any rate, I'm going to try to get back into the daily posting habit, even if it's short like this.

I just need to feel inspired when it's not 4AM for once. Or on a day when I don't have to get up inside of four hours from now. That would be good.

In any event, they shall be posted soon.

Update Jun. 6th, 2009 @ 01:31 am
I'm been lax on updates lately. Then again, there hasn't been a lot to report on. Life has been dull, yet overly full at the same time, somehow.

As is becoming the usual pattern, I went to bed a few hours after I got home on Tuesday night, and slept until 7PM that next night. Then, I started fucking around with my phone, hard resetting it in an attempt to fix the problem I've been having with the call log not appending. Apparently, the call log was corrupt. I found out when it hard reset on me when I scrolled to one section that showed a bunch of incoming calls from a number listed as "ÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿÿ". After I wiped it out, it was fine. I didn't want to lose three years worth of logging, but at least now it'll log all new numbers. And that's more important. Also, this solved the issue I'd been having where the browser didn't load when I clicked on links. And in general, things seem to work smoother and better. I guess there was a lot of cruft in there. After all, I've been using a Palm since I had that Sony Clie ages ago.

Because I spent the entire night fucking with my phone, I only got a 90 minute nap before I had to go to the damned wine class. Now, if it were something I was learning on my own time, like a credited college course, or something just done for the fun of it, I'd have loved this. But the company spin was "sell our proprietary products". Which of course the store I work at doesn't even carry. Well, maybe two Italian ones that are promo items, at most. So, as far as being actually useful to me in my day-to-day job, it was a massive failure.

I did manage to get off a nice one-liner, though. At one point, the instructor was talking about the difference between "aroma" and "bouquet" in a wine. I quipped that "the difference is that one's French, and one's not". I enjoy a nice glass (or bottle) of wine, but when you get to the point where you start making up shit like that, your head is clearly up your ass. It's all fluff and justification for the inevitable buyer's remorse associated with buying a bottle of wine that costs more than some people's cars.

Didn't get home until after 5:20 (bloody traffic) so I didn't get a chance to call about that promising condo I saw on Craigslist. I'll have to carve some time out on Monday to do that. If that's still available (I won't get my hopes up too high, it seems rather nice to have lasted this long) and in a FiOS service area, I'll have to give serious consideration to moving.

Still working on those three long-ass posts. They will be coming at some point, I just haven't been inspired to sit down and write them yet.

Still Alive! May. 25th, 2009 @ 04:25 am
So, I'm not dead. I've been busy with the usual work/sleep bullshit, plus I was kept away from Internet things by Lorie's visit, which was fun.

Trying to get caught up on the stuff I let fall behind, as per usual. I have to take the car in for the parking brake. I have an estimate on that, it's $290. Ouchie.

Need to fuck with the OS X server. I think it ate it's filesystem during the last major point update. I went to power it back on, and it didn't work. I also finally got an SATA card for it, and I dropped the two spare 250GB disks I had in there, but only one showed up. Have to figure out why that is. Also, I have to find a way to force that machine into target disk mode, so I can use the laptop to install onto it. Stupid Apple restrictions... it might run slow, but that's not reason to arbitrarily decide to not allow it to run.

So, I have to make several phone calls on my day off, as well as take the car in. Oh, let's not forget that list of things to do around the house. And then, the technical projects that are lined up behind it. I'm going to be getting either very little of that done, or very little sleeping in done.

That's all for now, just wanted to drop a note in here with some basic stuff as a placeholder. I still have three longer (actually, very long) updates to come soon. That's part of the technical to-do list, as a matter of fact. Syracuse, Marci's trip here, and the most recent in the line, Lorie's visit. More will be coming on all of those real soon now(tm). so stay tuned.

Weekend Update May. 5th, 2009 @ 06:47 am
New RAM for the server(s) from Fal came in the mail today. I didn't have the energy to rip anything out of the rack, so I'll probably be doing that tomorrow. I don't want to put it off for too long, but I don't want to do it until I have the time to do it right, either.

Will also try to get those long trip posts up soon. I just haven't had the time and been motivated to to do so at the same time yet.

The "weekend" for me is coming up. Have to take the car in for an oil change, and I'm going to get the parking brake looked at as well. Also have to try to get rid of some more stuff again.

Not really much else. Workday was a typical Monday. Tired as all hell because I didn't get enough sleep during the workweek. More tomorrow.

Bits Again? No, Sharper. Shards. May. 2nd, 2009 @ 05:10 am
Watched the BSG spin-off Caprica. Not bad.

No system issues on the desktop machine since a reboot and disk / permissions check. Knock wood. Must have just been something with fucked permissions, since the disk check didn't find anything. Probably due to one of the fucking power outages. I just love living in this complex. Oh so much.

The beer rep and I had a nice little conversation where he couldn't believe how I managed to make ends meet on what I made.

Working close shifts this week has only reaffirmed how much I fucking hate them. The 5 O'clock rush has nothing on the crazies that come out on Friday nights.

Have a bunch of stuff I need to do, but I keep sleeping through days off (when the only time I can really do it would be). It's frustrating, for two reasons. One, because it shows how little control I have over myself if I can't force myself to wake up for something. And two, I guess the one thing in my life is my number one priority and vice is sleep. Who needs gamboling, sex, alcohol, or a social life? I can sleep 17 fucking hours!

Is it ironic that the more I'm around the public, it makes me withdraw and increase my hermit-like tendencies? Or is that just the expected outcome?

I've not forgotten about the two promised mega-updates. At some point soon they will be coming. It's just a matter of feeling compelled to sit down and finish them.

I hate this waiting. I want June to hurry the fuck up and come, so I can find out if Target will take me, since pretty much everything I'm planning for the next year (or more) is resting on the outcome of that. I don't know if I can stand the amount of stress that working two simultaneous full-time (even if Target refuses to use the term, that's what it is) jobs without losing my mind or over-stressing my body physically. I need to try so that I can find out the answer. Maybe I can manage it just fine, maybe it'll fucking kill me.

Monday, Bloody Monday. Apr. 28th, 2009 @ 01:56 am
Phone seems fixed and stable, so far. IM+ is responding a little faster, too. Probably due to having it's gigantic log file moved to a contiguous memory space. Still having the problem with the browser, but Fal's going to help me fuck with that, hopefully.

Updated the DNS alias after the IP change. Ideally I'd like it to be a little more seamless (like being done by the router's firmware) but I don't have time to fuck around and do reliability testing, so it's going to have to continue to be fixed on a "as problems arise" basis.

I have a lot to do tomorrow (today) though I'll be honest and admit right now that I doubt I'll get to a lot of it. Stuff like paying the rent isn't negotiable, however. Cleaning the bathroom and cutting my hair I might not get around to, however. Oh, and I still haven't taken Jessica (car) in for that issue with the parking brake. I'm loathe to spend whatever that's going to inevitably cost.

Have some shopping to do tomorrow. Household stuff, like a new mop head and some more cat litter.

Looks like I fixed the fucking annoying clipboard bug that was annoying me in Parallels Desktop 4.0. Prior to that, copy and paste worked without a hitch. After the upgrade (which fixed quite a few other bugs, mind you) it stopped functioning. I've been fucking around trying to fix it for sometime, and I think I've finally stumbled on the fix: the clipbook service was disabled. That simple, it appears. At least I hope so.

No more progress on the larger posts detailing the visits, but I'll likely make progress on that tomorrow, since it's something I'll be able to do after buisness hours are over.

Graaaaaahhhhhhh Apr. 19th, 2009 @ 05:00 am
Not enough sleep last night. Or the night before. Work sucked, had to take caffeine pills and an energy drink just to make the day feel like it wasn't dragging on to the end of eternity.

Was mulling over some unpleasant things in my head while at work. And we were so slow, I had plenty of time to do so.

Some dumbass pushed a sixpack of beer back into the cooler, and all the bottles broke. I didn't notice right away where the beery smell was coming from, because the pile of Corona was so fuckin' huge. I hate that smell. It's nasty.

Got pulled over by a cop on my way home, for the first time ever. Apparently, I cut the light too close. I was going through the intersection as it was turning red, as I was turning onto BB Downs. He let me go with a warning to be more cautious at lights. I'm kind of annoyed that I got singled out for this, when I've seen people doing far more flagrantly dangerous and stupid things on the road. But I kept my wits about me and was polite and quiet with the cop. Probably why I just got warned. If I'd said my piece, I'm sure he could have written me up for running a red. Which I'm sure I could have fought and won in court, but who wants to deal with that shit if you can avoid it?

Perfect end to a shitty day.

The Syracuse update is coming (within the next couple of days) as well as the update for the "missing days" of this past Wednesday & Thursday.

That's all for now. Time to get a full night's sleep.

Probably Last Update For A While Apr. 15th, 2009 @ 05:36 am
Monday I brought box lady extra boxes on my way home, and she gave me a giant serving of her seafood fried rice as a thank-you. Delicious. Scallops, shrimp, and crabmeat. Made for one hell of a nice dinner, definitely a cut above the usual rice / ramen / spaghetti options open to me.

After eating, I basically passed out on the couch. Slept (with a couple of interruptions) from about 8PM until almost 1PM the next day. The debt must be paid.

Tonight at work sucked. Slow as hell, had some annoying moments. But, I got to talk with the IBM service tech, who gave us his direct number, so we can avoid going through the rigmarole next time something acts up.

Sherman (co-worker) dumped two 24oz cans of natty ice into a big gulp cup and was sipping on it for the last two hours or so we were open. I didn't put things together until he went to buy the damaged cans. He made up a weak story about how he "found some damages" and he was "going to buy them so inventory wasn't off". Personally, I don't care. But the idea of sipping on a giant quantity of beer in a cup and then driving home... eh. I've been known to have one drink with a meal or while out and then consider myself okay to drive a few hours later, after I've clearly metabolized the alcohol. It may be none of my business, but still caused me some consternation.

Nervous about meeting Marci ([info]delfinus) in person for the first time tomorrow. Looking forward to it, though. While she's in town, I'll probably be too occupied entertaining to make any updates. And if I do, they'll be very short.

Pushed back working on the Syracuse trip / wedding post. It's already gigantic, and only a bit more than half-done. So I can say with reasonable certainty that it'll be worth the wait. The hardest part was getting into the groove and getting started, and that's over with. Now I just have to find the time to finish it, which I will as soon as possible. Right now it's looking like Friday, though there's an outside chance that I'll get around to banging it out by tomorrow, depending on when I get done vacuuming and such.

Still need to get the car's parking brake looked at... but I'm not sure when I'll get the chance. I'd like to do it today, but I don't think that I'm going to have enough time.

Quickie Post Part Deux Apr. 13th, 2009 @ 03:32 am
Work fucking sucked. More than it should have for the six hours and change that I was there.

We had a very high proportion of people giving us flak about getting carded, more so than usual, and more loudly. Seemed like I caught most of them today, too. Lucky me. People suck.

Posted some stuff to LJ while at work. About the phone and liter pricing. Look a few below this.

Traffic was stunningly bad on the way home, despite being non-existent on the way in. Stop and go for a good five miles. Very frustrating. Didn't get home until after 10PM, in spite of having left at 9:20.

Didn't really get much done after I got home. Downloaded the last part of the new Red Dwarf series and watched it. Had dinner, responded to some stuff on LJ, facebook, and a few other things.

Think I've finally worked the kinks out of LoudTwitter. If it behaves properly tomorrow, I'll know for sure.

Need to get to bed, I'm going to feel enough like crap in the morning as it is.

I stayed up waaaaaay too late primarily to start to write the gigantic post about my return to Syracuse for the wedding. I've got about five pages (maybe more) into it, somewhere around half done. Should have that up here by tomorrow.

Quickie (Post) Before Bed Apr. 12th, 2009 @ 06:28 am
Working on the gigantic backlogged trip post. I've actually started writing it, fleshing out from my notes. That should be done tomorrow or the next day, depending on when I force myself to hunker down to attack it.

Speaking of attacking things, I watched Monsters Vs. Aliens tonight. Fun movie, even if some of the topical "adult" oriented humor was a little forced and dated.

Fucked around with LoudTwitter a little more, as the post prior to this indicated. It didn't work quite as planned, but that might be because I was fucking with the settings in the middle of a day. I'll play with it some more and see if I can't iron out the settings. It's a nifty idea, publishing a block of tweets daily to one's main blog automatically.

Finished the drive for Mike today, boxed it up and got ready to ship it out. If only FedEx Kinko's was still open 24/7 instead of being closed weekend nights. It's irritating to be able to ship something five nights a week at an ungodly hour, but not to be able to do so just because it's the weekend. No matter, I'll get it out to him on Monday.

Next I'll start updating the ones that are going out to[info]mnemonicranger . I've got those three to go, and then the "in progress" pile will have been whittled down significantly in size.

My keychain blacklight came in the mail today. That thing is fuckling cool. White LED, blacklight LED, and red laser pointer. All for a mere $3, too.

Finished organizing the media on the server. All the TV is on one drive now, as is all the music, movies, and miscellaneous other media. All with separate dedicated drives with room to expand.

The new Red Dwarf series is out in the UK, and in progress. Last night was the first part, tonight was the second, and tomorrow's the third. I'm going to wait until all three are out, and watch it all in a single sitting. I think I'll enjoy it more that way. Also, the new Doctor Who ("Planet Of The Dead") is out now as well, so I nabbed that. Not bad.

Hacked a number of things off of the to-do list. Mostly minor, but still enough to give me a nice sense of accomplishment. Not bad for a day when my initial plan was to go to bed pretty much right after I got home.

Stuff Dec. 8th, 2008 @ 04:34 am
Well, I managed to get rid of those electronics I wanted to recycle. The TV and the other crap is long gone. Good riddance, and I'm glad to have reclaimed my floor space.

The indian-sounding guy still wants the gum rack, and hopefully I'll be selling that to him on Wednesday.

I have heard "Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer" no less than 25 times at work. The xmas music is really starting to take it's toll on the thin veneer of sanity I have.

Someone paid using an extremely old $2 bill at work. I immediately bought it from the drawer. It's a series C 1953. Been in circulation (or more likely someone's collection) for 55 years. It looks very different from the next-oldest I have in my collection, a 1978 note. The back is entirely different (an image of the Montecello instead of the signing of the declaration of independence), and part of the front is printed with red ink. At first glance, I thought it was a silver certificate, and those are rare as fuck and worth ridiculous amounts of money (because of the price of silver these days). Needless to say, I'm quite proud of that. It's one of the cooler things about working there, running into the odd cash and being able to collect some of it.

Fatphin ([info]pyrophin) has not seen 2001: A Space Odyssey. How the fuck he managed that, I do not know. I made a "my god, it's full of stars" reference, and it went completely over his head.

I keep getting ideas for good posts to LJ that I never manage to remember until I get a chance to get to a device to post them. It's really annoying, and I have no one to blame but myself.
